Taking the Plunge: To Boston

Back in December of last year, 2011, Megan and I traveled down to Los Angeles for my audition for the Berklee School Of Music in Boston. We had a memorable time as we stayed with my sister Caydi Zerega (who sells wedding decor on Etsy if anyone is interested) down in Long Beach. It was a little bit of a drive, the morning of the audition, as we had to go all the way up to Hollywood. We finally got to the Studio where the auditions were taking place, I signed in, and we waited. I guess that is the closest feeling I'll have to American Idol, having to sit in a big room with a bunch of other people waiting to prove themselves. We drove home that same night feeling very very good about the audition, but we would have to wait till the beginning of February, two months later, to find out whether we got in or not. January 31st came and went, the day we were supposed to know, and we still didn't hear or know anything. I called the next day to find out that we had to wait another week. So we did. I called Berklee again and the man on the other end of the phone went ahead and told me anyway by saying, "Congratulations Benjamin, welcome to Berklee." I was accepted. I know that it is only an acceptance letter, but I felt accomplished enough to have achieved entrance to a very prestigious school. Now comes the challenge of fiscally making it happen. Ha! Boston here we come! Appreciation is devoted to all friends and family who have helped us in this great endeavor! Only you guys make it possible. Thank you so much! Stay tuned for an update on my upcoming album, which will be available in a few short weeks. the title: "A Blessing of Promise".

A Little About Me

Music began at the age of five when I first sat at the piano. Like the rest of the siblings in my family, piano lessons were an expected priority above most other childhood activities. My two older sisters, who also played the piano, were my inspiration and reason to keep playing and playing so I could one day be like them. Lessons were a regular thing for me which led to my first full concert at age 8. Studying under the supervision of prized Teachers in the Las Vegas valley, I continued to grow and learn more of the musical art. When I was 12, my parents got divorced which tore my family in two. Many financial sacrifices had to be made to help my mom make ends meet, so formal lessons were cancelled. From then on, I continued to teach myself, never letting go of the piano. When it came time for the high school years, I attended the Las Vegas Academy of Performing and Visual Arts, where I "majored" in Choral studies and Piano Performance. My teachers there helped me grow tremendously, giving me constant feedback, and critique to help me strive to reach my full potential. Many other experiences there helped build a unique and fun background that I would soon be using for the rest of my musical life. A few years after high school, I prepared to leave on a 2 year mission for my church, to serve in the country of Peru. Prior to my departure, I arranged my first song of a religious hymn, which I performed at the open house celebrating my departure. It all started there. Almost two years have passed since I have returned from Peru. During that time I met my beautiful wife Megan. (I love her a lot). Over the course of my time in Peru, I didn't come into contact with many pianos, so my talent was put on hold. But upon my return, I got right back to the piano and returned to doing what I love most.

They are here for everyone's enjoyment until we get the new album back from the factory. We are excited to listen to the final product! Please let me know of all likes and dislikes with the music! any feedback is appreciated and will go towards future compositions. Thank you so much!
